A STORY… OURS

It was the end of the nineteenth century in a Fassa valley that nowadays is to be seen only in old black and white photos and postcards, where the people who didn’t emigrate in search of a better life were barely able to survive with the poor harvest of their fields.

Granny Giulia and granddaddy Franzele on Aloch meadows - beginning of 1900

This was also granny Giulia’s life. During the good season she pastured her two cows in these meadows. Far from today’s rich tourist economy, those who came here were given a glass of milk or a savoury cream, which she served in a simple and kind way with a smile on her wrinkled face. These were the things that the first tourists loved once upon a time: intense and natural tastes together with a friendly and warm atmosphere.
Times has passed, the way of life and the people have changed, anyway at Malga Aloch you can still find those ingredients which made it special one hundred years ago: that familiar and warm-hearted flavour, near the village but at the same time outside its routine, and those dishes that smell good and natural… where everything can be enjoyed in a marvellous natural setting: the Dolomite giants look at us from above and we stare at them in happiness and wonder. (Granny Giulia and her cows are not here any longer, but if you listen carefully, it seems as if you may still be able to hear her friendly chatting and the merry cowbells).
